A Quick Look at Four Points by Sheraton Palawan Puerto Princesa

by Ria de Borja

Sitting on the spectacular, pristine Sabang Beach in Puerto Princesa, Four Points by Sheraton Palawan Puerto Princesa combines vintage design elements with the island's natural beauty. Woven materials mix with local artifacts in the lobby, where a fantastic beach view greets you, along with a 1,367 square-meter infinity pool. The rooms' decor reminds you that you are right by the beach, as does the resort's lush landscaping. The resort utilizes solar power, with all buildings equipped with solar panels to make the best of Sabang's sunny weather.

The first Four Points by Sheraton in the Philippines, Four Points by Sheraton Palawan Puerto Princesa opened on December 1st last year. The resort provides essentials every guest needs, along with honest, uncomplicated service, in a destination best known for its unparalleled natural beauty

The Spa faces the lobby and has an indoor-outdoor feel. Each treatment room has sage-colored walls and looks out into a pocket garden. Guests can exercise in the Fitness Gym with a view of the lush garden in the back and the picturesque mountains in the front.

The Kids Club includes a creativity corner with tables, building blocks, bricks, and cylinders. There is also a den area for kids to immerse themselves in books and the 'chill zone' to watch movies. The outdoor area is dedicated to running, jumping, swings, and slides.

'Evolution' restaurant is the resort's main dining space. On its right is an industrial shelf finished in natural wood and dark metal, which serves as an ambient bakery, pastry display, and cold station. The kitchen and display have a linear design of wood and local bricks with accessories related to farming and fishing surrounding the space. Guests can dine outdoors by the sea at ‘Evolution.’

Many of the ingredients used in creating the dishes of ‘Evolution,’ such as seafood and vegetables, are locally sourced and harvested from a farm in the area. Signature cocktails include ‘Beach Morning Glory,’ with a blue pea-infused gin, ‘Sabang Mist,’ featuring lambanog, ‘Palawan Colada’ highlighting the flavors of Bataraza pineapples, and ‘Underground Fizz,’ a nod to the famous underground river in the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River nearby.

'Il Fiore,' opening in February 2024, is the resort's specialty restaurant with an open kitchen of marble and wood featuring a firewood pizza oven. ‘Il Fiore’ also features al fresco seating to enjoy the wonders of Sabang Beach while dining. In time, diners at ‘Il Fiore’ will be invited to pick herbs from the resort's own garden as part of a multisensory experience showcasing the resort’s farm-to-table advocacy.

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an important part of the area. According to the UNESCO World Heritage Convention website, "This park features a spectacular limestone karst landscape with an underground river. One of the river's distinguishing features is that it emerges directly into the sea, and its lower portion is subject to tidal influences. The area also represents a significant habitat for biodiversity conservation. The site contains a full 'mountain-to-sea' ecosystem and has some of the most important forests in Asia."

The resort cooperates with the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park to remain educated on the guidelines for preserving and protecting the area’s endemic flora and fauna. During the pre-opening stage, Four Points by Sheraton Palawan Puerto Princesa participated in events such as mangrove tree planting in Sabang Mangrove Forest on World Wetlands Day, mudball throwing for Araw ng Taraw at the Sabang Wharf, and coastal cleanup on World Environment Day. It was also part of the tree-planting initiatives for the Balayong (Palawan Cherry Blossom) Festival, organized by the Office of the City Mayor.
