Dinner at Cloud Lounge was an unforgettable experience. Perched 49 floors above busy M.H. Thamrin Road in Central Jakarta, Cloud Lounge is a snug, stylish lounge bar and dining place with dramatic low lighting, hip furnishing, and high tables and chairs. In the al fresco balcony, large couches offer comfortable seating you can literally sink into. The menu has a substantial array of food and drinks to choose from. We had a thick creamy soup, Caesar Salad, and Margherita Pizza. The Cloud Nasi Goreng Kampung came in an enormous plate with two sticks of chicken satay, crunchy krupuk with pickled vegetables and salty/spicy sambal on the side, and a large heap of fried rice covered with fried egg on top. That wiped us out.
Cloud Lounge is located on the 46th floor of The Plaza, Plaza Indonesia, Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Kav. 28 – 30, Central Jakarta.
Stepping inside Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta’s Li Feng Restaurant is akin to entering a glamorous private club back in the old colonial town of Batavia. The restaurant’s partnership with Chef Fei from the Michelin-starred Jiang at Mandarin Oriental, Guangzhou has produced exquisite culinary delicacies such as Sichuan Chili Chicken, Crispy Fried Fish Skin with Salted Egg Yolk, Spicy XO Scallop Dumpling, Sweet Sour Chicken, and other tasty treats. Mr. Junhyeok Choi, Director of Food & Beverage of Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta was especially proud of the Swan Dumpling with Black Pepper Duck Meat which was served with much flair. When the waitress poured water on the platter of swan-shaped morsels, it created a mist that covered the dumplings. A must-try when you’re in Jakarta.
Li Feng is located on the 2nd floor of Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta (Jl. M.H. Thamrin, Menteng, Kec. Menteng, Jakarta, DKI Jakarta)
Another bistro that lights up the sky at night is Café California, or simply Café Cali. Located on the 32nd floor of The Orient Hotel, the arched doorways, stucco walls, lounge chairs, potted palms, and even an infinity pool looking out into the massive corporate towers of Sudirman District, make Café Cali a truly relaxing joint. The manager delighted our appetites with some tasty treats, including Nachos, Spicy Buffalo Chicken Wings, Chicken Quesadillas, Tacos De Asada, French Fries, Caesar Salad, Fish & Chips, Spicy Jambalaya Pasta, and Wood-Fried Truffle Mac & Cheese. Dinner at Café Cali proved to be a delicious and comforting way to end the night.

Housed in a formal Dutch mansion filled with period objets d’art and exotic paintings, the authentic Indonesian cuisine here has been inspired by the royal journeys of King Hayam Wuruk, who held the reign of the Kingdom of Majapahit at the beginning of the 14th century. Lara Djonggrang’s menu brings back to life the unparalleled beauty of ancient Indonesia’s history. Amid rich Indonesian art and décor, we had Tempe Ngawen (thinly sliced soybean cake), Lumpia Tahu (tofu spring rolls), Rendang Padang (beef simmered in coconut milk and spices), Ayam Bakar (grilled baby chicken whose recipe came from Prambanan Temple), and many more imperial dishes.
