Embarking on a journey of luxury and tranquility was remarkably effortless during my short escape to the serene coastal retreat of Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort. Nestled along the shores of the Hilutungan Channel, with breathtaking vistas of Olango Island across the sparkling azure waters, this exquisite haven represents the latest leisure property of Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, a renowned premium hotel brand under the esteemed Marriott International umbrella.

Transporting myself to this world delightfully apart from the usual was as simple as a short 30-minute ride from the bustling Mactan-Cebu International Airport. Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort is a picture-perfect haven—a secluded paradise that embraces a pristine white sand beach and the tranquil expanse of cerulean waters.

Upon setting foot in the resort, the expansive lobby immediately enveloped me in a sense of serenity. Nestling into the plush woven chairs, my gaze wandered through the vast open windows, revealing captivating vistas of sprawling man-made pools, their crystalline waters seeming to cascade into the azure depths below.

Eye-catching artworks—in the form of sculptures, oversized decor, and handmade accents—placed in strategic locations provided pleasing embellishments. It was a welcome respite from the clamor and demands of urban living, and I felt the urge to lounge in the lobby and relax!

"The architecture and layout of the resort respect the natural terrain of the environment it is in," noted Ms. Würgler-Cronin. "There are also many spaces that define our brand positioning as 'the world's gathering place.' In the public areas, there are ample places for people to converge and talk. While the outdoor spaces provided relaxing views, the resort's guest rooms were no less impressive. Sheraton Cebu Mactan Resort boasts a total of 261 spacious rooms and suites. My own handsomely appointed room was a veritable haven of comfort and convenience. Spanning a generous 50 square meters, the Guestroom Ocean View featured a capacious sitting area with plush chairs and an ottoman that enticed me to settle in and lose myself in the mesmerizing seascape just beyond the window.

As my trip to the resort combined work and vacation, I appreciated the spacious desk by the window. The complimentary high-speed internet guaranteed wireless connectivity, ensuring that I could seamlessly remain digitally in touch and available throughout my stay. However, if I felt the need for a moment of leisurely indulgence, the generously sized 50-inch LED TV awaited, promising entertainment and relaxation from the comfort of my own bed. And speaking of taking the outdoors in, my room's balcony afforded commanding vistas of the sparkling sea. From this perch, I immersed myself in the soothing smell of the ocean breeze.

Each meticulously designed accommodation, as informed by Ms. Würgler-Cronin, allows guests to enjoy ease of movement in the sheer scale of the spaces, among the most generous available on Mactan Island. "At 5 Cien, skilled culinary artists prepare the best of mouthwatering Filipino delicacies, as well as Asian and Western dishes at live stations. It is truly an innovative restaurant inspired by modern gourmet cuisine. Here, guests can embark on a culinary adventure that combines food, culture, and art. 5 Cien offers a delightful fusion of flavors," intoned Chef Christian. During breakfast, in particular, the buffet brims with a delectable selection of Continental, Western, Asian, and Filipino fare that will surely perk up and gratify the cravings of foodies. These are complemented by live cooking stations serving tempting egg dishes, noodle soups, and fluffy pancakes. A server even offers taho—a beloved Filipino treat consisting of soft soybean pudding with syrup and sago pearls.

One late lunch, Executive Sous Chef Marcel Ramos treated us to a medley of Filipino favorites at 5 Cien. “While the restaurant showcases various culinary cultures, it also serves comforting Filipino dishes for those longing for a taste of home,” he pointed out. Among his creations were widely popular victuals like sinigang na hipon, bami, humba, and a tantalizing mango tree cake.

For a unique experience, guests can visit DIP Restaurant. Peruvian Chef de Cuisine Daniel Dela Fuente explains that DIP specializes in Nikkei cuisine—a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian culinary traditions that originated from Japanese immigration to Peru in the 19th century. "Nikkei cuisine incorporates ingredients like miso, ginger, soy, wasabi, and rice vinegar from Japan, as well as products such as chilies, corn, potatoes, pepper, and lime from Peru," he conveyed during the "Domingo Por La Mañana" Sunday brunch. For the occasion, he prepared a variety of delightful Nikkei dishes that included mini poke bowls, Nikkei margherita, katana sliders, sanguche de chicharron, crabmeat causa, truffled salmon bites, and breaded shrimp maki.

Tucked near the pool, Buhi Cave Bar offers an extraordinary dining experience inside a "cave." Whether indulging in a lavish dinner or participating in a wine-tasting experience, the charming and unique ambiance set against a natural and secluded backdrop allows guests to embark on a culinary journey that reflects the vibrant culinary scene of Cebu. The bar effortlessly combines Mediterranean-inspired bites with expertly crafted cocktails.

Sa Sitio Bakery & Bar serves as the perfect gathering place for busy individuals in Cebu. This delightful fusion of a coffee shop, deli, and bakery caters to every craving, whether it's an afternoon pick-me-up, a quick coffee break during work meetings, or delectable snacks to enjoy while exploring the wonders of Mactan Island.
