Boracay Island is on top of the beach heap—as our writer Marco Torres and photographers Gabriel Dela Cruz, Leah De Leon and Tabitha Fernan-Jamlang—can attest. It is still, as Conde Nast states, the number one island in the world for its “gentle coastlines, transporting sunsets and thriving nightlife.”

With over 20,000 islands scattered throughout the Pacific and Indian Oceans, maritime Southeast Asia is bound to have the world’s best beaches. More than just the beaches, however, Southeast Asia offers a plethora of reasons that will entice all types of travelers. It has a tropical climate (perfect for year-round basking), rich cultural diversity and a cuisine so celebrated, it has reached far-flung corners of the globe. On top of that, one can hop from one pristine island to another whether traveling on either a backpacker’s or a luxe travelers’ budget.
Naturally, when you visit Southeast Asia for its beaches, a rendezvous in the island that reigns supreme, should be mandatory. Boracay Island is on top of the beach heap. The claim is indisputable considering the validation comes from the world’s premier authority in lifestyle and travel, Conde Nast Traveler. Its globetrotting readers voted it the No. 1 island in the World for its “gentle coastlines, transporting sunsets and thriving nightlife.” Indeed, the island has so much going for it.
The Philippines prides itself in offering a different adventure in each of its 7,107 islands. Boracay, with its countless possibilities, probably has all 7,107 adventures rolled into one.
Whether you are a first–time or a frequent visitor, you’ll personally experience why it is so by the end of a stay. After all, Boracay is a beach of unparalleled beauty, a haven of rejuvenating escapes, an arena for water adventurers, a plaza for serious foodies, a 24-hour club for partyphiles, and now, unsurprisingly, a destination for culture vultures.
In Boracay, there is truly something for everyone. Let’s enumerate just a few of the ways.
The beach fronting Two Seasons Boracay in Station 1 is quieter and less crowded.
Did you know that Boracay is neither a barangay, nor a municipality? Boracay is the name of the island. It belongs to Malay Municipality, which is a part of Aklan province. Malay Municipality consists of 17 barangays, three of which, make up Boracay: Balabag, Manoc-Manoc and Yapak.
Spread over four kilometers, White Beach in Boracay probably has the finest, purest, whitest powdery sand that you’ll see in your lifetime. One can’t help but be puzzled by the sand, which won’t dissolve in water, despite being as fine as milk. It has crystal blue waters that mirror its clear blue skies. The beach is so shallow during low tide, you can wade and thread for up to 100 meters from the shoreline. Coconut trees barricade its many established resorts so you have picture-perfect unobstructed natural views from the beach. On top of all these, you are rewarded with awe-inspiring sunsets at the end of each day that you’ll want to grab a cocktail from wherever you are for this most-visually stunning show.
If an escape from the city’s hustle-and-bustle is what one needs, Boracay Island is the perfect sanctuary. The beauty of the beach, in itself, is invigorating. It’s never hard to find a spot where you can lie peacefully in White Beach (it helps that most of last night’s revellers nurse their hangovers during the day). Moreover, there are other beaches in the island like Puka and Bulabog Beaches that are less frequented by the selfie-stick towing crowds, hence, a little more solitary.
If you need more than just a dose of sunshine though, there are luxury spas scattered throughout the island. The Philippines’ most acclaimed destination spa and resort, Mandala Spa in Station 3, offers Asia’s most awarded spa treatment, the Hilot Trilogy - an hour and forty-five minute massage that’s said to benefit the mind, body and soul. Tirta Spa, likewise, has a wide offering of treatments that will elevate your senses to nirvana. The Spa, one of the Philippines’ biggest wellness franchises, has recently arrived and now offers its world-class spa services at The Lind Boracay.
Now, if you want a massage without having to splurge, a full body massage for less than US$10 from a licensed masseuse is easily accessible anywhere in the island.
The Flyfish ride will keep your adrenaline all pumped up.
Stingray Watersports offers ATV experiences with stunning view.
COAST
Located in Station 2, you’re right in front of a wide, less-crowded beachfront yet remain close enough to where the island’s action is. Since its fairly-recent opening, it has already been living up to its hashtag, #letthesunshine, thanks to a generous flow of personal warm touches served by its staff’s relaxed, sunshiny smiles. Its two dramatic centralized swimming pools, one with a bar and chaise lounges, the other long enough to lap in, are stunning to look at and swim in. Operated by Raintree, the same group responsible for elevating Discovery Shores to its current superstar status, you’ll be eager to return to your room at the end of your long island adventure-packed day. After all, they’ve put no stops in ensuring you have A-1 bedding and shower facilities. Bounce on your bed and caress your linens and you’ll know what I’m talking about.

THE LIND BORACAY

MR HOLIDAYS

For those into activities of the more strenuous kind, the island can be as action-packed as one aspires it to be. Most water sports activities on your bucket list will most likely be offered somewhere in the island. White Sand and Clear Water Aqua Sports can assist you in ticking all these off. You can inebriate yourself in the beauty of aquatic life as you do a Beginner’s Dive garbed in professional scuba gear. You can also try Paragliding for hypnotic views of the island – a hundred meters over the ocean is probably the most serene place you’ll ever be. For an adventure that will keep your adrenaline pumping, try the Flyfish Ride where you’ll have to hang on to dear life lest you do the flying yourself. Or if you want a tamer version, try the classic Banana Boat Ride or the newly-launched UFO ride whose thrill level is a cross between the two.
Now, if the activity you seek is away from the waters, try the ATV Off Road Experience offered by Stingray Watersports. The drive lets you go extreme on a bumpy trek with some mesmerizing views.
Food is an important component of an unforgettable holiday. Luckily, in Boracay Island, you’ll find a wide array of food choices from most, if not all, corners of the globe. You can look forward to a culinary journey to a different country each mealtime.
Chacha’s Café in COAST at Station 2 offers fresh seafood and excellent Filipino cuisine with a twist. Operated and managed by Raintree, the same group that brought Manila, Museum Café, Chotto Matte and Povidore, you’re assured of an outstanding culinary experience in each visit. Chacha’s Cold Seafood Platter is perfect with happy hour cocktails as you watch the sun set. The Seafood Guava Sinigang and Seafood Bicol Express have just the right amount of sourness and tanginess that will excite the serious foodie. If you want something comforting, their Cold Spicy Salmon & Tuna Poke Bowl, with its eclectic mix of flavors is, in itself, reason for a visit.
Tartine’s at The Lind Boracay. Don’t let the name fool you. Tartine’s is much more than a French restaurant. It’s a wonderful gustatory experience for those who want consistent, comforting and straightforward food anytime of the day. Try their open-faced sandwiches, the house specialty.
There’s also Aloha Boracay Island Grill. If barbecues are synonymous with beach food to you, then Aloha should be in your Boracay to-do list. Their Aloha Meat Party, a feast of Texas-spiced baby back ribs, Cajun-spiced chicken leg, hickory-smoked pork chop plus three kinds of imported sausages, will last your entire party throughout the grill’s ten long (12 p.m. to 10 p.m.) happy hours.
Foodies can enjoy a Malaynon feast by Nabaoy River.
Live performances abound in the island, like this conga band playing by the beach.
